While it takes a little longer, the Anova Precision Cooker can make any cut of beef, pork, chicken or fish exquisitely tender. Using a technique called sous vide, the Anova gently heats up whatever it is you're cooking in a water bath.
How do I set the timer on my Anova Precision Cooker?
- Hold down the play button for 6 second (the temperature will them switch from F to C or vice versa).
- Then, you will see a timer icon appear on the screen.
- Next, a series of zeros will appear on the screen.
- Set the time by scrolling the wheel up or down.
Directions
- Set the Anova Sous Vide Precision Cooker to 130ºF (54.4ºC).
- Generously season the steak with salt and pepper. Place in a medium zipper lock or vacuum seal bag. Seal the bag using the water immersion technique or a vacuum sealer on the dry setting.
- Place the bag in the water bath and set the timer for 2 hours.
No need to splurge on a vacuum sealer -- cheaper Ziploc bags and water work just fine. Food-safe zipper bags work great for sous vide.
EASY TO USE: Simply fill your Anova Precision Cooker Container with water, attach your sous vide circulator to the container, place or clip your sealed bag of food beneath the integrated wire rack, and you're ready to cook.

Sous vide manufacturer ChefSteps recommends using food-grade vacuum sealing bags because they're BPA-free and made of polyethylene (we like the ones made by FoodSaver). These bags need to be sealed with a vacuum-sealing system, which FoodSaver also makes.

A typical Sous Vide immersion cooker will work at full power of 1000 Watts for 20 minutes to bring the water to cooking temperature, but only use around 100 Watts or less to maintain the cooking temperature.

The Anova Precision Cooker can accommodate up to 5 gallons of water, which is equivalent to 20 quarts or 18.927 liters. Whatever size container you choose, this is the maximum amount of water that will be supported without proper insulation. The clamp for Anova is height-adjustable.

Sure, the sous vide is all about cooking food in the vacuum bag, but it's still loaded into the container. So, if the heating element isn't working or has malfunctioned, it will not heat up. If the heating rods are slightly warm, it means that the heating element is defective.
- Clip the sous vide securely on the side of the container. Fill the container with water.
- Press the power button for more than 3 seconds; the screen is on and the Current Temperature (in the middle) is flashing.
- When water reaches the Set Temperature, the unit will beep 4 times to indicate that it is time to cook.
