The CRA can and does visit homes or businesses quite often. They're called field calls. They would have a special field ID and you can call the general inquiries line to confirm who they are.
The Canada Revenue Agency will send automated telephone messages to individuals who may be required to pay their tax by quarterly instalments, to remind them of the December 16, 2019 instalment payment due date. The message will not include personal taxpayer information and will not ask for personal information.
Emails sent from the CRA's email notification service will have the sender name Canada Revenue Agency / Agence du Revenu du Canada. The CRA will not do the following: Send a link and ask you for personal or financial information.
You can also call 1-877-382-4357. The FTC is the primary government agency that collects scam complaints. Report all robocalls and unwanted telemarketing calls to the Do Not Call Registry. No, CRA does not use automated calls under any circumstances. Plus, CRA agents don't leave any personal information of any kind on messages. Contact you with a prerecorded message claiming you owe money to the CRA, threaten police action or ask you to call a number to settle your tax balance.
