What is the non-branded term for a PowerPoint that you use at your company? We (the PowerPoint team) most often use the term deck. When we have to write formal or semi-formally (e.g. on a blog post), we use the term presentation (which I believe is what all of our online documentation uses).
A presentation is the process of communicating a topic to an audience. It is typically a demonstration, introduction, lecture, or speech meant to inform, persuade, inspire, motivate, or to build good will or to present a new idea or product.
PPT is a file extension for a presentation file format used by Microsoft PowerPoint, the popular presentation software commonly used for office and educational slide shows. PPT files can be viewed by PowerPoint, PowerPoint Viewer or the Open Office software suite.
The slides tab displays small thumbnail slides illustrating how your slides will look. On the left side of your slide is an area that has two tabs labelled Outline and Slides. The Outline tab shows your presentation arranged as an outline. The Slides tab displays small thumbnail images of your slides.
PowerPoint offers three ways to create a presentation: Blank presentation, From Design Template, or From AutoContent Wizard. The Blank presentation option is one of the more commonly used methods. It offers several blank slides, with layouts for text and graphics.
Slide layouts. UNDERSTANDING SLIDE LAYOUTS. In PowerPoint, a slide layout is like a slide template, and contains formatting (such as applied themes) and placeholders. A placeholder is a container that holds text and graphics, such as pictures, clip art, tables, charts and more.

Share your PowerPoint presentation with others
- Select Share.
- If your presentation isn't already stored on the cloud, select where to save your presentation to the cloud.
- Choose a permission level.
- Select Apply.
- Enter names and a message.
- Select Send.
Choose the desired paper size in the printer driver settings, set a scaling factor that will result in the PowerPoint slide size being scaled to the correct size on the printed output, turn "Scale to fit paper" OFF and print.
Select File > Print > Print Full Page Slides. In the Print dialog box, look for a More settings link and select it.
Print Multiple Slides per Page with Notes
- Open the File menu in PowerPoint.
- Select Export on the left near the bottom of the list.
- Select Create Handouts.
- Click the Create Handouts button on the right.
- Select 'Notes next to slides'.
- Click OK.
To change the slide size:
- Select the Design tab of the toolbar ribbon.
- Select Slide Size near the far right end of the toolbar.
- Select Standard (4:3 aspect ratio) or Widescreen (16:9) or Custom Slide Size.
The basics of publishing to the WebWith the presentation open in PowerPoint, choose Save As Web Page from the File menu. If you save your presentation as a standard Web page, PowerPoint will generate an HTML file and a folder that contains a number of additional files that the presentation needs.
Choose File --> Print. Click where you will see "Full Page Slides" (within the Settings section) and choose from the Handouts field. Select the number of slides per page you desire. Select Print.
How to convert PDF file into PowerPoint:
- Open a PDF document in Acrobat DC.
- Click on the “Export PDF” tool in the right pane.
- Choose “Microsoft PowerPoint” as your export format.
- Click “Export.” If your PDF contains scanned text, Acrobat will run optical character recognition (OCR) automatically.
- Save as new file:
- Open your PowerPoint and click on File, then select Print.
- Under Printer, choose CutePDF Writer (or other PDF creator) in the dropdown menu.
- Under Settings, choose 3 slides under Handouts.
- Click the square Print "button" at the top of the page.
How to Apply a Theme to Only One Slide in PowerPoint
- Launch PowerPoint and open your presentation.
- Click the "Design" tab.
- Right-click the theme you want to apply, then click "Apply to Selected Slides." To change your theme if you later becomes dissatisfied with it, simply right-click another theme and click "Apply to Selected Slides" once again.
Good presentations are memorable. They contain graphics, images, and facts in such a way that they're easy to remember. A week later, your audience can remember much of what you said. Great presentations are motivating.
When you're presenting, tell the story about how your design came to be. Walk through each section of the design and explain your rationale. Talk about the design, its benefits, and how it solves the project goals (but avoid explaining what they can obviously see right in front of them).
