AAAA Batteries are small batteries that are cylindrical in shape. Also called LR61 or MN2500 batteries, AAAA batteries are commonly used in electrical devices like LED penlights and Bluetooth headsets to name a few.
Surface will then re-discover the Surface Pen when you hold down the top button of the Surface Pen for about seven seconds–until the light in the middle of the pen clip starts to flash (on the original Surface Pen) or the light on the flat side of the pen glows white (on the new Surface Pen).
To do this:
- Right-click on Start menu.
- Select Command Prompt.
- Type following command “powercfg /batteryreport” and hit Enter key. It will generate the battery life report and save to the current location you located with a file named “battery-report. html”.

- Carefully turn the tablet over so the screen is facing down.
- Locate the two 5.08mm T5 Torx screws.
- Use a spudger or similar flat headed tool to release the small bezels out lined in the image.
- Next, remove the ten 5.92mm T5 torx screws located underneath the kickstand.
If Surface Pen is not writing but buttons work, you might be able to fix the issue simply by rebooting the pen. This is incredibly simple to do, and you just need to press and hold the pen button for about 10 seconds. After doing that, the pen will reboot and the problem should be resolved.
How to Change a Watch Battery

- Place the gasket to the side.
- Find and remove the battery.
- Insert the new battery.
- Test your work.
- Replace the gasket and watch back.
How to turn off your surface pen and boost its AAAA battery life. You probably do not know or never really thought about it, but the Surface pen is always on, even when not in use and your Surface is off. Yes, the Surface pen does not have an on/off button.
To replace the battery yourself, you'll need a new battery and some tools. A Surface Pro 4 battery price of approximately $90 along with the cost of repair tools and will likely be the cheapest repair option.
To replace the battery, you will first need to remove the casing, undo the adhesive under the battery pack, and, finally, remove the battery to replace it.
Pair Surface Pen
Press and hold the top button of your pen for 5-7 seconds until the LED flashes white to turn on Bluetooth pairing mode. Select your pen to pair it to your Surface.To restart a dry ball point pen, start by giving the pen a good shake or tapping it against a hard surface, then scribble vigorously on a piece of paper to try to get the ink flowing. If that doesn't work, you can soak the tip of the pen in rubbing alcohol for 5 minutes.
Option 1: Pen LED blinks continuously. This means that your pen is ready to pair and has power. If you're having issues inking, then the issue is with the Surface touch screen's ability to recognize the pen. Restart you Surface and try again.
Got to Settings and tap Change PC settings. Tap PC and devices and then tap Bluetooth. Now that you no long see the Surface Pen under Bluetooth, hold down the top purple button on the pen, until a green light in starts flashing (about 7 seconds) in the middle of your pen. This will force your pen to reconnect.
There are some Windows Ink devices from companies other than Microsoft; the Surface Pen will also work with those. HP, Dell, and Lenovo all make them. The original Surface Pen used Penabled technology from Wacom, also known as EMR. Again, there were also some non-Microsoft devices that used it.
If the issue persists, uninstall the keyboard drivers from device manager and restart the computer. Please right-click on start>select device manager>Expand Keyboards>Right-click on the listed drivers and uninstall them. Then restart the computer and check again if the issue is fixed.
How to use the new Surface Pen
- One click to OneNote. Click the eraser button on the Surface Pen once to launch a blank OneNote page on your Surface.
- Double click for screen capture. Click the eraser button on the Surface Pen twice to snap a picture of whatever is on your Surface screen.
- Click and hold for Cortana.
- Change Surface Pen tips.
Select the Start button, then type system information. Select System information in the list of results. Find System Model under the Item column. The model info for your Surface will appear in the Value column next to System Model.
Your new Surface comes with a one-year limited hardware warranty and 90 days of technical support. The standard warranty covers hardware defects only and does not provide any coverage for accidental damage.
The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 has an optional stylus called the Surface Pen. The Surface Pen is an active stylus with a replaceable tip. The pen works using Bluetooth technology and is powered by a single AAAA (Quad A) battery.
Calibrate your pen
To open it, tap the Windows key and type 'calibrate. ' Then tap “Calibrate the screen for pen and touch.” Under display options, tap Calibrate. Follow the on-screen instructions and make sure that you hold the pen and orient the screen in the angles you are most likely to use for drawing and writing.Currently, the Surface Pen available with Surface devices is powered by a single AAAA battery, which promises up to 12-months of battery life and can be replaced by twisting off the cap.
Pair Surface Pen with your Surface
Surface Pen uses Bluetooth to pair with your Surface. To make sure it's discoverable, press and hold the top button on the pen for about 7 seconds. You'll see a light on the flat side of the pen when it's ready.Pair Surface Pen
