4) Spinet Piano (Smallest Upright Piano) Of all the vertical pianos, the spinet is the smallest and shortest, standing at less than 40 inches from the ground.
A spinet pianos is a style of upright that has a drop-down action. The small soundboards, short strings and compromised action design make spinets terrible pianos for any player. Regardless of the overall condition, spinet pianos should never be selected for beginning students.

Here, thin layers of wood approximately 20 feet long are laminated and glued together. The wood is then clamped onto a press, bending it into the shape of the piano's rim. Wood quality and types used in piano manufacturing
Many different types of wood are used in a piano for various parts. Knabe grands had the serial numbers in several places. Most common is probably on the plate near the lid prop, but I have also seen them on the soundboard. Very often people remove them and do not replace them. Check under the piano on any braces, the top and underside of the soundboard, and the edge of the key bed.
Upright or vertical piano serial numbers can usually be found by lifting the lid and looking inside on the gold harp or plate. It is usually not necessary to remove the upper front panel to find the serial number (as in this picture).
Open the lid and look above the keyboard area. Look in front of the soundboard in either corner. Look along the inside plate holes or it may be in one of the circles stamped into the soundboard. The number may be stamped under the piano.
If your piano has an iron frame, these marks can often be found below keyboard level in an upright piano, and are quite easily accessible by removing the BOTTOM DOOR (the front panel below the keyboard). This is usually held in place by one or two simple clips at the top edge, unless someone has screwed it in.
