But what happens to your music? According to Apple, your library will remain intact even though the way you get to it will change. As the company lays out in a press release: “[U]sers will have access to their entire music library, whether they downloaded the songs, purchased them or ripped them from a CD.”

Normally, your user folder is located at /Users/johnsmith/ . However for the case that you are in Recovery Mode, your user folder is located at /Volumes/Mac/Users/johnsmith/ .
iTunes. plist) in the users/username/Library/Preferences/ folder, and remove it from the preferences folder. Then open iTunes again and change the default library location. If a preferences file corruption is causing a reset of the settings, then this should fix it.
If you keep the entire iTunes folder on the external and the network drive drops or is not ready, just restart iTunes while holding Option and select Choose library, it will all come right back. Quit itunes. Copy /Music/iTunes/ folder to the external.

Typically, a computer has one location under which all music files are stored. You can choose a location on a NAS to store music within, and then have your computers connect to it. The location on your NAS is still your music folder. Within your music folder are your music files.
If you just have a few songs you'd like to back up, you could always just store them in Dropbox, Google Drive, or any other cloud file storage service. But the services above are better for putting a large music collection in the cloud so you can access it from anywhere.
To view your music library, choose My Library from the navigation drawer. Your music library appears on the main Play Music screen. Touch a tab to view your music by categories such as Artists, Albums, or Songs.

You have a Library section in the TV app on Mac in Catalina that stores all of your purchased movies, ripped DVDs and Blue Ray discs, and movies you downloaded by other means. If it was in iTunes, it's now in the Library section of your TV app.
Using the web player
- Go to the Google Play Music web player.
- Click Menu. Music Library.
- Click Albums or Songs.
- Hover over the song or album you want to download.
- Click More. Download or Download album.
Click the folder-shaped icon in the lower-left side of the Start window. Go to your music folder. Open the folder where your music is stored by clicking a folder on the left side of the File Explorer window.
To locate the Music folder on your Mac, locate the Home option in the Finder menu, then double-click the Music folder. Within the Music folder, you'll find the iTunes folder, which you'll want to drag and drop into your Hard Drive.
In the iTunes app on your Mac, choose File > Library > Organize Library. Select “Consolidate files.” Files remain in their original locations, and copies are placed in the iTunes folder.

Redownload music
- Open the iTunes Store app.
- On your iPhone or iPod touch, tap More in the menu at the bottom of the screen, then tap Purchased.
- Tap Music at the top of the screen.
- Find the music that you want to redownload, then tap it.
- Tap the download button for the song or album.
Maybe I overwhelmed you with information, but it SHOULD be as simple as:
- Open iTunes.
- From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose iTunes > Preferences.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Under iTunes Media File Location, click Change and point it to your library.
