Southwest airlines are known for changing price very often, several times per week. You could see that price go up and down and it is not always best strategy to book too early. Southwest is one of the key airline we focus our analysis on.
If you purchase the Anytime or Business Select Fare, you can receive a refund of the difference if the fare drops. If you get a Wanna Get Away, you will receive a travel credit for the difference. The exception is that you can receive a refund for the difference within the first 24 hours of purchasing the ticket.
A Look at Price Drop Refund Policies by Airline. If the price dropped for the exact same travel dates, flight times, and the same class of fare, then some airlines will issue a travel credit for the difference in fare. However, most of those that will issue a refund are going to charge a fee for doing so.
Expired credits on Southwest Airlines can be re-issued up to six months AFTER the expiration date. Once re-issued, they are good for six months from the date of re-issue, effectively giving you TWO YEARS from the original purchase to use them.
Wait for the airline to cancel it or make significant changes that might make you eligible to get your money back instead of a travel credit or voucher. 2. If your flight has not been canceled by the airline or changed significantly, you are not eligible for a refund unless you had a refundable ticket.
You can cancel any flight up to 10 minutes before the flight is scheduled to take off. After that, the price of your ticket will be forfeited if you purchased a Wanna Get Away fare. If you purchased a Business Select or Anytime fare, your ticket price will be transferred to a travel fund for use on a future flight.
After studying the fare data for a few months, I've it appears that you'll find the cheapest Southwest fares between three months and 30 days in advance. Once the 30-day mark is crossed, nearly all of the low fares go away.
Southwest has one of the best policies when it comes to booking flights with points. All fares are 100% refundable, even the lowest Wanna Get Away fares. Regardless of the cancelation reason, you can cancel your flight at any point and receive the full amount of points back into your account.
The value of Southwest points varies depending on the route and other factors. On average, Southwest points are worth ~1.5 cents each*. You'll find on international flights you'll typically get a lower value per points because the taxes and fees on an award ticket are usually higher.
The limited-time introductory offer of 75,000 points on all three Southwest credit cards results in a redemption value of $1,200 once the minimum spend is met. If you can earn the Companion Pass, that redemption value increases considerably.
How Much Does It Cost to Buy Southwest Points? Each Southwest Rapid Rewards point will cost you between 2.75-3 cents apiece, depending on how many points you are purchasing.
Additionally, Southwest points allow you to book a ticket for anyone, while travel funds can only be used for those whose name is attached to the certificate. So if you're ever booking a flight for a family member or friend, you'll be much better off with points over funds.
All in all, the Southwest Rapid Rewards program is a great frequent-flyer program for domestic travelers. If you're searching for a new airline or new co-branded credit card, Southwest's offerings are worth a look.
Southwest points never expire, regardless of whether or not there is any activity in your Southwest account. That's an excellent change because previously they would expire if you didn't have any earning activity in 24 months . You can purchase the points you need by logging into your account and clicking on Rapid Rewards at the top of the screen. Under Manage, select Buy or Transfer points. From here you can select the option you need. Points can also be purchased through the booking path when making a flight reservation.

So the decision comes down to the extra value you get for the $99 annual fee of the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card compared with the $69 you'll pay for the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card — and then whether it's worth paying $149 to step up to the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card.
The 60,000-point bonus accelerates you toward earning the highly sought-after Companion Pass. This pass allows a designated companion to fly with you for free on Southwest Airlines — you just pay taxes and fees. You either have to fly 100 qualifying one-way flights or earn 125,000 points in a calendar year.
Re: Senior Early BoardingSeniors don't automatically get any preboarding benefit due to their age. Preboarding is available for those disabled passengers who 1) have a specific seating need to accommodate their disability, or 2) need assistance in boarding the aircraft.

Companion Pass is the benefit that allows you to choose one person to fly with you, free of airline charges (does not include taxes and fees from $5.60 one-way) every time you purchase or redeem points for a flight.
The biggest difference between these two cards is their ongoing earnings potential. While you'll earn 2 points per dollar on Southwest and Rapid Rewards purchases with the Premier Business Card, you'll earn 3 points per dollar with the Performance Business card.
Can I combine points and cash for a reservation? No. But keep in mind, you can book a one-way reservation using points and book your return using cash or any other accepted form of payment or vice-versa.
How to get Southwest Airlines priority boarding
- Purchase Business Select fare. In addition to having a guaranteed spot in the upgraded boarding group, you get a free premium drink during your flight.
- Earn elite status.
- Purchase upgraded boarding.
- Get a Southwest Airlines credit card.
- Purchase EarlyBird Check-In.
The generally accepted street value per mile is more like 1.4 cents—that's based on the average domestic airfare ($361*) divided by 25,000 (the minimum number of miles required for a domestic ticket). By that standard, 50,000 points are worth $700, which indicates that paying cash for this ticket is the better option.
You can redeem points on Southwest's website for flights, hotel stays, rental cars, gift cards and more. Rapid Rewards points are also redeemable for international flights on other airlines, even though Southwest doesn't have any airline partnerships.
Is A-List status worth it? Elite status on Southwest provides few benefits outside of an accelerated check-in and boarding process. However, if you fly enough to qualify for the Companion Pass, then loyalty to Southwest may be worth it.
