Northern Railways has released the list of special trains during Diwali and Chhath Festivals 2019. In order to beat the extra rush of passengers during the festive season, Indian Railways has decided to run a few special trains.

The IRCTC seat avilability for Tatkal tickets in every train and can be booked before 24 hours. Actual seat availability is vary from train to train. Its also different for up train and down train. For a 650 km journey IRCTC issue 246 Tatkal tickets for up train and 170 Tatkal Tickets for Down train.

Tatkal charges are fixed at 10 per cent of the basic fare for second class and 30 per cent for other classes. For reserved second sitting minimum tatkal charge is Rs 10 and maximum is Rs 15. Yes, you can book tatkal ticket on the same day of journey, just to remember, booking windows close once the chart prepared for the train. So book the tickets before 4hrs from departure time of the train. Also check for premium tatkal quota, it cost extra bucks but saves your day if you're in hurry.
According to Tatkal rules, only four passengers are allowed to travel per Tatkal ticket. However, one can book two Tatkal tickets per user id in ticket classes except first AC and executive class. If wait listed Tatkal tickets do not get confirmed or RAC, they automatically get cancelled and the passenger gets refund.
(iii) It is not mandatory for the passenger(s) to go to the counter to book the Tatkal ticket, however, the proof is to be sent in the aforementioned manner. (iv) For internet booking of Tatkal tickets, the passenger shall enter the identity proof type and number, which is to be used for travel.

You can get a full refund if your train journey is cancelled. Some train companies will also give you compensation if your train is more than 15 minutes late. You need to keep your train tickets to get a refund. You should try to claim within 28 days, but some train companies allow longer.
