Disadvantages of biometric authentication
- Costs – Significant investment needed in biometrics for security.
- Data breaches – Biometric databases can still be hacked.
- Tracking and data – Biometric devices like facial recognition systems can limit privacy for users.
The central issue is that biometric authentication technologies pose privacy and security concerns: once biometric data has been compromised, there is no way to undo the damage. For a compromised password, you simply change it; for a fingerprint, ear image, or iris scan, you're stuck with the compromised biometric.
to Start >> run and type NFD and then press enter. This will open device diagnostic utility. Under Device tab click on device scan button, click init button then place finger on sensor and click capture. Just check if image appear on left window or not.
To check your BIOS for biometric support and enable it:
- Press the Power button to start the computer, and press the F10 key to open the BIOS setup utility.
- Under System Configuration, look for a Biometric Device option; if it exists, enable it.
- Press F10 to save this setting and restart the computer.
For all models: Fingers that are too clean or too dry can be difficult for the reader to recognize. Rubbing your finger on your forehead before placing it on the reader sometimes helps. If this does not help, try registering your fingerprint again.
Since a biometric reveals part of a user's identity, if stolen, it can be used to falsify legal documents, passports, or criminal records, which can do more damage than a stolen credit card number. The Office of Personnel Management breach in 2015 compromised 5.6 million people's fingerprints.
Make sure that your fingers and the Touch ID sensor are clean and dry. Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and make sure that iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store is on, and that you've enrolled one or more fingerprints. Try enrolling a different finger.
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- Restart their iPad. Once it's returned to the Home screen, see if the setting returned. Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch -- Turn off Restrictions altogether, then check for that setting.
Compared to their predecessors, more recent in-display fingerprint sensor tech tends to be both faster and more generous in terms of the physical size of the sensor. Regardless, Apple's iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max have all opted to exclude the feature in favour of Face ID.

Enable Touch ID For App Purchases
- From the Home Screen of your iPhone, tap on Settings.
- On the Settings Screen, tap on Touch ID & Passcode.
- You will be prompted to enter your Passcode.
- Next, turn ON iTunes and App Store option, located under “Use Touch ID For” section of the Touch ID & Passcode Screen (See image below).
Tap Settings > Security, then tap to turn on Biometric Unlock. Place your finger on the fingerprint sensor, or let your device scan your face or eyes.
Chrome is adding Touch ID and fingerprint sensor support for web apps. Chrome 70 enables macOS' Touch ID sensor by default, along with any fingerprint sensor available on an Android device. Developers of web apps will therefore be able to request a user's fingerprint in order to confirm their identity.
Use WebAuthn with your fingerprint
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- Go to the website you want to sign in to.
- Go to the website's sign in page.
- Enter your username.
- Select Continue.
- When the dialog box appears, place your finger on the Chromebook fingerprint sensor. Be sure to use a finger with a fingerprint you saved.

Windows Hello will allow the user to log in to websites without needing a password. It will be possible to access online services using Windows Hello on all computers upgraded to version 1903, using the FIDO2 standard. Users can register for websites or applications with an 'authenticator' instead of a password.
Unlock your Android device to verify it's you
- Pattern: Draw a simple pattern with your finger.
- Pin: Enter 4 or more numbers.
- Password: Enter a combination of 4 or more letters, numbers, or characters.
- Fingerprint: Touch your finger to a sensor.
When you enable the prompt and toggle it on Android, you will see a new option under Settings > Payment methods called Screen Lock. It says you will be able to use screen lock to confirm your cards that have already been saved in the payment methods.
Go to chrome://flags in your Chrome browser.

Press Windows Key + R then type gpedit.msc and hit Enter to open Local Group Policy. 3. Make sure to select Biometrics then in right window pane double-click on “Allow domain users to log on using biometrics” policy.
With the Windows Hello fingerprint sign-in not working, you'll need to revert to using your password or PIN to login and check for Windows Updates manually. Install all pending and detected updates, and restart your computer. Try signing in with fingerprint authentication again.
Go to the Accounts group of settings. Select the Sign-in Options tab, and the fingerprint and PIN unlock options should be enabled. This seems like a bug but it was done deliberately. Ideally, adding the DWORD value back to the Windows Registry should resolve the problem.
The Galaxy S10 and S10+ come with a built-in fingerprint recognition sensor at the bottom centre of the screen, allowing you to quickly and conveniently unlock your phone.
Enable biometric support

If you disable that service, it will not reduce disk usage in any particularly measurable way. It's mostly only valuable to machines that have biometric devices for security such as fingerprint scanners or Windows Hello cameras.
In order to use a fingerprint reader, you will need to set up a user account with a password on the PC. This will allow you to log on to your PC with a swipe of a designated finger. You may also use the fingerprint reader to fill in password fields on web sites and other applications that require a log in.
