You'll get the choice of Bixby on Samsung phones or Samsung TVs, but it's far from a necessary feature, and you may well opt to use Alexa or Google Assistant functionality in those devices and disable Bixby instead.

Bixby is the Samsung intelligence assistant first introduced on the Galaxy S8 and S8+. You can interact with Bixby using your voice, text, or taps. A short press on the Bixby button takes you to the Bixby main page. Press and hold the Bixby button to talk to Bixby in a natural way, like a friend.
(Pocket-lint) - Samsung's Android phones come with their own voice assistant called Bixby, in addition to supporting Google Assistant. Bixby is Samsung's attempt to take on the likes of Siri, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
The thing with Bixby is that it's not really horrible—it's just unnecessary. It's that stupid Bixby button that Samsung just had to throw on the side of the S8, S9, and Note 8. It's a constant thorn in Galaxy users' sides, mostly because it's just too easy to mistake for the volume rocker.
Samsung's big mistake with Bixby was attempting to shoe-horn it into the physical design of the Galaxy S8, S9, and Note 8 via a dedicated Bixby button. This irked plenty of users because the button was too easily activated and too easy to hit by mistake (like when you meant to change the volume).
Bixby can be activated using the side key or Bixby key, which are both located underneath the volume buttons on the left hand side of your device. If your device has a Bixby key, pressing it once will open Bixby home, no matter what you are doing with your device at the time.
If Bixby has stopped working for no apparent reason, you should consider troubleshooting the main app itself. You can do that by clearing the cache of Bixby Service app. Tap Clear cache button.
