What happened on the last episode of Gotham?
Jerome isn't the Joker, but he is the Joker's inspiration. He christened Jeremiah as the person to carry on his legacy, and so far, it visually looks like the show is leaning into those iconic images from the comics and movies that scream "Joker."
If they had been successful then the plan was to renew it and cancel 'GOTHAM', which would have seen it end on a cliffhanger. However, due to protests on social media FOX decided at the eleventh hour to renew it for a fifth and final season, which would give producers the chance to wrap things up properly.
As a prequel series, there's always been an unavoidable finish line waiting for Gotham. The Fox series ends when Batman begins. That finish line is looming and the end is near for the series, which is set in Bruce Wayne's hometown in the years and months leading up to his first masked-man adventures as Batman.
Gotham Season 5 was renewed by Fox in what TV Line described as an “11th hour decision” for the network. Gotham Season 5 will mark the final batch of episodes for Fox's Batman prequel, and the idea is that this will be the year that will “wrap up” Bruce's early journey to becoming Batman.
David Mazouz, who has played young Bruce Wayne throughout the series' five-year run, continues in the part.
But shortly after he was transformed back into his normal self by Dr. Hugo Strange, his demise came at the hands of Oswald Cobblepot. In Batman #677, agents of Batman's mysterious enemy the Black Glove attack and beat Alfred in front of Bruce and Jezebel Jet, severely injuring him.
In Earth-Three, a universe where all heroes are villains, Harvey's counterpart appears in Justice League #24 in Alfred's flashback. Harvey Bullock of Earth-Three is still a member of Gotham Police, but he is a corrupt cop, and like the rest of GCPD of this universe he works under Owlman.
The good news on the Selina Kyle front is that she didn't die due to her wounds from being shot at the end of the penultimate episode, and she was evacuated out of Gotham even as Bruce refused to leave.
Meanwhile, Gordon and Barbara have a tryst that results in her pregnancy; while Gordon wants nothing to do with her, he promises to be there for their child. After he is nearly killed during a cease-fire, he realizes that he truly loves Lee, and he proposes to her.

An infected Gordon shows up and attacks Mooney, accidentally impaling her with a sword and destroying the antidote. With her dying breath, Fish tells Cobblepot to either take Gotham for his own or burn it to the ground.
Now, according to the theory, Oswald re-creates himself after his fake killing, hiring a short, fat kid to go around telling people his name is Oswald Cobblepot, and that kid becomes Penguin while the real Oswald takes on a new identity and rises to power as The Joker.
Penguin Is In Love With Ed Nygma On 'Gotham,' But Kristen Kringle May Be Back To Complicate Things. First, because when Penguin "confessed" his love for Ed Nygma (to an empty room, no less), I felt vindicated after their hug last week felt like a little more than the typical bond between coworkers.
Deviating from comics tradition, there's a little something brewing between these two -- or at least there is on Oswald's part; Ed doesn't really reciprocate those feelings after Oswald killed his girlfriend. When we last saw the two, Ed shot Oswald and left him for dead in the Gotham Bay.
But things got even more interesting in 'Anything For You', when Nygma and Cobblepot share an intimate moment at home. The two share a genuine moment as Cobblepot cradles and caresses Nygma's face, almost close enough to kiss him, after learning the truth about Butch's plan.

Will Gotham series get picked up for the sixth season? Fans are signing a petition to bring Gotham Season 6 due to the rushed ending of the fifth season. However, Fox won't be producing the show. Gotham season 6 is probably going to get picked by other networks or online streaming services.
