This newly discovered wasp was likely named after its sting. Since it was a new species that hadn't been analyzed by Justin Schmidt, a wildlife expert named Coyote Peterson followed in Schmidt's footsteps to seek out the species. He was stung by it and described it as far worse than the Bullet Ant.The sting from a Tarantula Hawk is so painful that the recommended treatment by biologist Justin O. Schmidt is to simply “lie down and scream.” Thankfully, the creature doesn't come in contact with humans too often, though they are common in the southern United States.
They are named the bullet ant because their sting is so bad it "feels like you were shot by a gun." And while the venom is incredibly painful, it is not deadly and has no lasting effects after 24 hours.To the Amazon's Sateré-Mawé people getting stung by bullet ants is part of life.

Paraponera clavata is a species of ant, commonly known as the bullet ant, named for its extremely potent sting. It inhabits humid lowland rainforests from Nicaragua and the extreme east of Honduras and south to Paraguay.
Army Ants. Army ants are not the terror for humans portrayed in movies, but their biology is extraordinary and well worth discussing. Armed with large mandibles and a painful sting, army ants are highly effective predators.
"I think we have a new king here folks," Peterson finally says, claiming the wasp's sting produced a burning sensation, sharper than the one he felt from the bullet ant. After some time passes, Peterson reaffirms this sting made the grade as the worst he's ever experienced.
Screaming is satisfying and helps reduce attention to the pain of the sting. Few, if any, people would be stung willingly by a tarantula hawk. The pain is instantaneous, electrifying, excruciating, and totally debilitating.
An attack from a fire ant typically causes instant, intense pain. However, some stings can produce intense pain and itching. Stings can be life-threatening for people allergic to the venom of fire ants. A single sting can produce symptoms of anaphylaxis in just a few minutes.
Ants attack and defend themselves by biting and, in many species, by stinging, often injecting or spraying chemicals, such as formic acid in the case of formicine ants, alkaloids and piperidines in fire ants, and a variety of protein components in other ants.
Venom. The jack jumper ant and its relatives in the genus Myrmecia are among the most dangerous ant genera and have fearsome reputations for their extreme aggression; Guinness World Records certifies the ant Myrmecia pyriformis as the world's most dangerous ant.
RIFA are currently found mainly in subtropical southeastern USA states including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and parts of North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and California.
The most potent venom likely belongs to the Maricopa harvester ant (Pogonomyrmex maricopa), which can kill a human with about 350 stings, but is only a 3 on the Schmidt scale. That's still 4–8 hours of horrible pain, but the bullet ant pain lasts 24 hours and is somehow worse.

While the initial bite is extremely painful and redness, irritation and swelling are common, be on the lookout for signs of allergic reaction – bull ant bites have killed people in the past due to the potency of their venom.
