All of Apple's current phones other than the iPhone SE (2020) have Face ID, but for the iPhone SE 3 the company might bring its cheapest range in line with the other iPhones by including Face ID for the first time.
Here's what you should do then:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Touch ID & Passcode.
- Enter your passcode.
- Turn off iTunes & App Store.
- Reboot your iPhone SE.
- Go back to Settings-> Touch ID & Passcode menu.
- Turn iTunes & App Store back on.
- Tap the option to Add a Fingerprint.
Hard reboot your device. The Touch ID problem could be temporary and solved with a good reboot. Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and disable all of the options you see (the ones in the red box in the image below). Then, restart your iPhone or your iPad and re-enable the features you want turned on.
Use Touch ID (supported models) to securely and conveniently unlock iPad, authorize purchases and payments, and sign in to many third-party apps by pressing the top button (ninth-generation iPad and fourth-generation iPad Air) or the Home button (other models) with your finger or thumb.
With iOS 7, Apple took security to a new level, with the introduction of the Touch ID fingerprint scanner. Information in this article applies to iOS 7 or later on iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 series and the iPhone 6s.
The iPhone SE does feature a home button, but not in the conventional way you might be used to. Much like the iPhone 8, it doesn't sport an actual clickable button, but instead a stiff home button-shaped surface that features haptic feedback.
Apple's iPhone 13 lineup continues to lack a fingerprint scanner, despite initial rumors that the new models would feature under-display Touch ID technology. All of the flagship iPhone models since the launch of the ‌iPhone‌ X in 2017 have forgone a fingerprint scanner in favor of Face ID authentication.
With the 2019 update, iOS 13.1 can be used on iPhone7. iOS 13.1 includes FaceID functionality, but iPhone7 does not seem to have FaceID.
Apple replaced Touch ID with Face ID on the iPhone X in 2017, and the latest iPhones — the iPhone XS and iPhone XR — don't have a fingerprint sensor, either. Unlocking your iPhone with Face ID is also slower than Touch ID and doesn't work unless you hold your device in the correct orientation.
You can also name or delete fingerprints. You still have to set up a passcode to use Touch ID, for two reasons: When you turn your iPhone on, you have to enter the passcode, and if for some reason your fingerprint doesn't work, you can still unlock your iPhone.
To set up Face ID:
- Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode.
- Tap Set Up Face ID.
- Make sure that you're holding your device in portrait orientation, position your face in front of your device, and tap Get Started.
- Position your face inside the frame and gently move your head to complete the circle.
