Retirement Plans and the CSS ProfileUnlike on the FAFSA application, the value of retirement plans are included on the CSS Profile. According to the Profile, student and parent retirement plans (IRA, Keogh, 401k, 403b, etc.) are reported as assets for the respective owners.
To complete a CSS Profile application, you need a College Board student account. If you need to complete the CSS Profile as a parent (for example, as a noncustodial parent), you still need to create and use a student account. You just need to create a student account using the parent's information.
The PROFILE form is administered by the College Scholarship Service (CSS), the financial aid division of the College Board. The CSS PROFILE is required by many private colleges and universities to determine your eligibility for non-government financial aid, such as the institution's own grants, loans and scholarships.
Unlike the more widely used Free Application for Federal Student Aid (or FAFSA), which is required for any kind of federal aid, as well as for assistance from most states and colleges, the CSS Profile is just for private, non-federal aid.
While applicants can file the CSS Profile after the Priority Filing deadline, schools tend to exhaust their funds over time. So, if you're late to file, you may be out of luck in getting your fair allocation of institutional dollars.
The fee for the initial CSS Profile and one college or program report is $25. Additional reports are $16. CSS Profile fee waivers cover all application and reporting fees.
A: Some colleges and universities require families to submit the Profile every year. Other schools only require the application for the student's freshman year. Check with each college or university for requirements.
Many deep picket schools use the CSS profile or their own forms when it comes to distributing their own need based aid. If you don't fill out the CSS profile then you pretty much have close to a 100% schance if not receiving any institutional aid.
Just like the FAFSA, the CSS PROFILE can be filled out as early as October 1, but different schools enact different exact deadlines. Also, much like the FAFSA, funds are given on a first-come, first-serve basis so the earlier you apply, the better. What is the advantage of CSS PROFILE?
The CSS Profile usually wants more information about your family's finances than the FAFSA. This means that submitting the CSS Profile does not impact your federal financial aid, including the expected family contribution (the estimated amount your family can afford to contribute toward education costs).
The CSS profile questions ask for the following details:
- Names, ages, and demographics of those in household.
- Prior-prior year income and current asset values for both parents and the student.
- Financial income on both households if parents are separated, not just the custodial household.
- Home equity.
Many colleges provide institutional financial aid to international students. These colleges need to understand your financial situation, in the context of your local economy. The CSS Profile application will collect information about your family's income, assets, and expenses.

RIT will not offer you a financial aid award until you have been admitted. RIT offers a comprehensive financial aid program consisting of merit-based scholarships and a full range of need-based grants, loans, and campus employment programs that provide assistance to RIT students and families.
Applicants to the University of Rochester are considered for merit scholarships when they apply for admissions to the College (School of Arts and Sciences, Edmund A. Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences). Some scholarships require applicants to submit additional documents.

The University of Rochester meets the full calculated institutional financial need of admitted students through a combination of scholarships, grants, need-based loans, and work-study. Students are not required to take out student loans as part of their financial aid awards.
The University of Rochester offers need-based financial aid to undergraduate students who are Mexican or Canadian citizens. Canadian and Mexican citizens do not need to complete the FAFSA.
