Transponder keys also have a chip in the head of the key. Typically they have a plastic head and are larger than the mechanical key.
You can order a new key from any Chevy dealer or locksmith. The price can vary depending on if your Chevy has a transponder key, security chip, or VATS. Can you bypass the PATS system? Yes, there is a simple way to bypass the pats system on your own. All you need is the transponder key to trick the system. At least the original valet key that came with your car will already have an authorized chip. If you think you may have locked your keys inside the car, you could get a cheap replacement made that will get you in the door using the hidden keyhole. Then if you find your keys inside, you'll only be out a few bucks.

Chipped, or Transponder, keys are keys that have an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chip inside the head of the key. These types of keys have become an industry standard for vehicle manufacturers. This is because the RFID chip adds an extra layer of security to your vehicle's ignition.
Most cars used simple metal non-transponder car keys without any programmable chip inside until the late 1990's. Non-transponder keys are still high security keys in that it typically has a cut on both upper and lower portion of the key which makes the ignition impossible to be picked by a picking tool.
Home Depot does have a limited selection of transponder chip keys that can be cloned at some Home Depot locations. Home depot transponder chip car keys range from $39 - $80. Keep in mind many car keys now have buttons on them for keyless entry access which home depot does not sell.
