Go to your local office supply store or arts and crafts store. For photographs and postcards, most stores sell special markers made specifically for writing on that type of glossy paper. Laminated paper may require a different marker, such as a Sharpie. For glossy magazines, a good ballpoint pen will work well.
Silk cardstock with glossy finish: A glossy finish can be applied on the front and back of a folded design and on the front page of a flat card. It can make colours more vivid and vibrant, and protects against scratches. You can't write on pages with a gloss finish.
It dried almost immediately at the time of being printed. However, for glossy or photo printing paper this could take longer. It will take about 30 seconds for the ink to dry completely on such paper surfaces.
Place each page under an infrared heat lamp for several seconds to shorten the drying time. The best way to speed up the drying of ink on glossy paper is to increase temperature and decrease humidity.

Glossy, satin, luster, or semi-gloss inkjet papers (photo papers) require pen as pencil will not work. Archival pens will not dry and will easily smear. Sharpie markers will work but as far as we can tell, Sharpie ink is not considered archival.

Ink your stamp of choice with a light color of ink. Then twist it (or drag it) onto your glossy cardstock. Repeat a few times to create a one-of-a-kind background.

You can purchase grease pencils at craft stores for writing on the back of pictures. Grease pencils are usually inexpensive; I'd say under $1.
While you may find it difficult, if not impossible, to use a regular ballpoint pen to write on wax paper, you can still use a pen to mark on the wax paper. Remove the ink stem from the pen and use the top of the pen's barrel to etch words or pictures onto the wax paper.
