Bank of America no longer requests that customers set travel notifications, due to ongoing security efforts that include monitoring your accounts and sending automatic alerts to your phone or email if suspicious activity is detected.
You're not required to notify your credit card company when you're going away on vacation, but it is highly recommended. By letting your credit card company know where you're going and for how long, your company will know that any card transactions from that location were likely authorized by you.
Debit cards are easy to use and carry, fees are nominal, and it's easy to cancel one if it's lost or stolen while you're abroad. For those reasons alone, it's an absolute travel essential, and we've been traveling with ours (and no credit cards) for six years and counting.

1. Keep your existing bank account. If you are moving abroad, but intend to keep some assets (such as property) in the UK, keeping your existing bank account is a sensible choice. It's a good idea to speak to your bank and let them know your plans to see what options they present to you.
Just log into online or mobile banking. We automatically monitor accounts for unusual foreign transactions, so let us know before you travel abroad. Please note, if you have a joint account you both need to notify us. For credit cards, only the primary cardholder needs to give us travel notifications.
You can use your Chase debit card overseas anywhere Visa is accepted. However, please remember to call the bank beforehand and notify them about your travel plans, so your card doesn't get declined. You can also set up a travel notification online, by logging in to your account here.
