Rabies is transmitted by animals and the most common method of transmission to humans is through dog bites. Unfortunately, dog bites are common in Bali. Since BAWA vaccinated over 70% of the dogs in Bali, this suggests that the program was a rousing success.
Yes, there is rabies in Bali, but no, you should not be in panic mode. I have not had shots and in fact see very few stray dogs around any more. Those affected have been mostly locals who did not seek treatment or follow up on treatment and usually in rural areas away from tourism.
Monkeys in Bali are not known to have rabies, but there is an epidemic of the disease among dogs there. Transmitted through saliva, rabies can't be tested for. The virus travels to the brain via the nervous system and can hide in body tissue for up to 16 years.

Monkey Bite Treatment
IF YOU HAVE A CATEGORY II or III bite you need to get the Post Exposure Rabies Prophylaxis injections (PEP). This is the vaccine for rabies. It consists of 4 injections over the course of 2 weeks. An injection on Day 0, Day 3, Day 7 and Day 14.It says that the local cats been brought into Indonesia from Holland (by the colonialists) and than the cats (especially those later surviving on the streets etc) degenerated due to the unsuitable habitat, namely the food. There are no mice available, the rats and other kinds are not edible by cats.

In the past, Indonesia had three subspecies of tigers: Bali, Java, and Sumatran tigers. The Bali tiger was extinct in the 1930s and Java tiger in 1970s. The last of Indonesia's tigers are holding on for survival against deforestation, poaching, and human-tiger conflicts."Bali Dogs" are a unique breed to the island (that is the pure bred) and have quite a history attached to them. You will see dogs, but "not" hordes of stray mangy dogs roaming the streets.

Parts of Bali's coastline – mostly the southwest part extending from Kuta to Canggu – have dangerous rip tides and undertows. At certain times of the day and year, red flags are erected on dangerous beaches. These beaches are safe to swim in, as are beaches with no flags in sight.

To reduce your risks, we recommend not eating these foods in Bali:
- Food from street vendors - eat at hotels and reputable restaurants.
- Leafy green vegetables and salads - they could be contaminated after being washed with tap water.
- Rare or undercooked meats.
- Seafood.
- Chicken particularly if it's not fully cooked.
Bali mosquitos are usually worse in the rainy season (October to March) but you do need to be vigilant all year round.

April to October is the best time to visit Bali, when there is little rain, low humidity, and lots of sun. Bali is a good year-round destination. There is a wet season but it can still be a fine time to visit Bali. If you want to save money the best months are May, June, and October.

Bali Rainy Season
Bali has two main seasons: the dry season, which runs between May and September and the rainy season, which runs between October and April. Bali's rainy season varies in severity between the months, but even in the wettest months, showers rarely last more than a few hours.Hopefully you won't need anything more than an ibuprofen or two after too many beach cocktails. Tip: Every first aid kit should have anti-diarrhea medicine such as loperamide (Imodium), but don't take it unless access to a toilet isn't an option (like if you'll be on transportation all day).
Thailand and Bali have opposite rainy seasons, so Bali should be visited between April and September while Thailand is best between November and April. If you have limited time and want to see everything, Bali may be best as it is much smaller than Thailand.
