The DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) vaccine protects children under age 7 against three bacterial illnesses: tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis, which is commonly referred to as whooping cough.

Answer: In BC, a booster dose of the Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine is recommended for adults who were immunized in childhood, but is not publicly funded (free). You do not need a prescription and you can purchase the Tdap vaccine at some pharmacies and travel health clinics.
Most health insurance plans cover the cost of vaccines, but you may want to check with your insurance provider before going to the doctor. Most insurance companies are now required to cover the cost of immunizations and preventive care, but a select number of older and more limited plans don't yet apply to the new law.
CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens, and other chains and some independent pharmacies offer more than the flu shot—they typically also administer other immunizations recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), including vaccines against pneumonia, polio, shingles, Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis),

Walgreens administers Tdap and Td vaccines, but does not administer DTaP. See your healthcare provider for the DTaP vaccine.
A single shot of Tdap is recommended in place of your next Td (tetanus, diphtheria) booster, which is given every 10 years. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that the Tdap shot is especially important for anyone who anticipates having close contact with an infant younger than 12 months of age.

Preteens and Teens. Preteens should get one shot of Tdap between the ages of 11 and 12 years to boost their immunity.

DTaP is a vaccine that helps children younger than age 7 develop immunity to three deadly diseases caused by bacteria: diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough (pertussis). Tdap is a booster immunization given at age 11 that offers continued protection from those diseases for adolescents and adults.
Live vaccines administered by the oral route (oral polio vaccine [OPV] oral typhoid, and rotavirus) are not believed to interfere with each other if not given simultaneously. These vaccines may be given at any time before or after each other.
Some people should not get this vaccine
Tell the person giving the vaccine about any severe allergies. Anyone who had coma or long repeated seizures within 7 days after a childhood dose of DTP or DTaP, or a previous dose of Tdap, should not get Tdap, unless a cause other than the vaccine was found.A minor nail puncture may not require a visit to your doctor. But, if the nail or wound was dirty or the puncture is deep, you should see your doctor or visit urgent care. They'll likely give you a tetanus booster shot if you haven't had one in the past 5 years.
Answer: Common reactions to the Tetanus and Diphtheria (Td) vaccine may include soreness, redness and swelling where the vaccine was given. Too frequent boosters of tetanus-containing vaccines can result increased pain, swelling and redness at the injection site.

DTaP & Tdap
- Most insurance accepted.
- At Pharmacy, vaccinations for adolescents through seniors are administered by a certified immunizing pharmacist.
- At MinuteClinic, vaccinations for children (18 months and older in most states) through seniors are administered by a medical provider.
Vaccines may be available at private doctor offices, pharmacies, workplaces, community health clinics, health departments or other community locations, such as schools and religious centers. If your primary healthcare provider does not stock all the vaccines recommended for you, ask for a referral.
Intramuscular injections are often given in the following areas:
- Deltoid muscle of the arm. The deltoid muscle is the site most typically used for vaccines.
- Vastus lateralis muscle of the thigh.
- Ventrogluteal muscle of the hip.
- Dorsogluteal muscles of the buttocks.
A new preventive vaccine may not specifically appear in the formulary, but the plan may still cover the vaccine. Contact your plan to find out about coverage . Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage Plan Part C that offers Medicare prescription drug coverage may also have coverage for the following: MMR vaccine.
