When you're on this primary Franchise Mode screen, take a look at the bottom right where it says "(R) MLB" in green. Flick the right stick to the left or right, and you'll switch to your Minor League teams, which you can then play as or edit just like your Major League team.
Road to the Show is MLB The Show 21's career mode. You'll create your own ballplayer from scratch and lead them through the minor league on their way to the majors. The Pittsburgh Pirates started the night by selecting Louisville catcher Henry Davis with the No. 1 overall pick, followed by the Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles, with the first 36 picks of this year's event scheduled to be made on Sunday.
The draft order is determined based on the previous season's standings, with the team possessing the worst record receiving the first pick. Unlike most sports drafts, the first-year player draft is held mid-season, in July since 2021.
A player attending a junior college can enter the following year's draft without issue. A player going from high school to a traditional four-year college, however, has to wait until after their junior year to re-enter the draft … unless they qualify as a draft-eligible sophomore based on their age.

This year, the draft will move up to 20 rounds, plus compensation picks and two competitive balance rounds, allowing 612 amateur baseball players to be drafted by MLB clubs.
Unlike other sports' drafts, the only MLB draft picks that can be dealt are compensatory selections at the end of the first and second rounds. If there is a hot shot prospect you really like but is a top 5 pick but you're at 15, you just won't get him.

It's just very rare. How rare? Consider this: Since the MLB Draft began in June 1965, only 23 players have gone from being selected via that process straight to MLB without first playing in the Minors.
If clubs could trade picks either before the draft or after, the value of a top pick is better preserved. Baseball decided from the start of its draft in 1965 to forbid the trading of draft picks for fear teams would squander them.
