Visitors may enter the galleries at MoMA and MoMA PS1 with items up to 11 × 17 × 5” (28 × 43 × 13 cm). Larger items and large umbrellas must be checked in our checkroom. Please wear backpacks on the front of your chest or carry it to the side. All bags are subject to security inspection.
We do allow backpacks in our museum. Visitors are permitted to bring in food and beverages in resealable containers inside a backpack or other bag. Food and beverages may not be consumed anywhere in the museum except for the two designated cafeterias.
No Food and Drink: Only bottled water is permitted in the Museum. You may only consume food and other drinks in the Food Court, not in the Museum. Groups who bring food are encouraged to picnic on the National Mall.
The Smithsonian permits still and video photography for noncommercial use only in its museums and exhibitions, unless otherwise posted. For the safety of our visitors and collections, the Smithsonian prohibits the use of tripods, monopods, selfie sticks or similar devices in our museums and gardens.

Keep in mind the Met won't let you use selfie sticks, so bring a friend if you're looking to document your trip in portraits. A bottle of water: You can't bring outside food and drink into the museum, but you can bring bottles of water.
For everyone's safety, all bags, rucksacks, packages and personal items may be searched before entry. Wheeled cases, sports equipment and large items of luggage are not allowed on British Museum premises.
At most of the museums, visitors are required to walk through a metal detector, and bags are scanned through x-ray machines. The Smithsonian suggests that visitors bring only a small purse or "fanny-pack" style bag. Large daypacks, backpacks, or luggage will be subject to a lengthy search.
You could spend a whole day at Mona but two or three hours will give you a sense of the best bits. The building itself is stunning.
MoMA Monday Nights. One Monday a month, MoMA stays open until 8:45 p.m. Drop in after hours for exhibitions, films, entertainment, and a cash bar. Visitors have an extended opportunity to view special exhibitions, as well as the Museum's renowned collection of modern and contemporary art.
No. They check your bags as you go in. You can purchase food and water once inside, but the food is restricted to certain areas. There is a cafe at MoMa, but one cannot take any food or beverages into the exhibit halls.
Admission to MoMA PS1 is currently free for all NYC residents, courtesy of the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Foundation. Full-price MoMA PS1 tickets can be redeemed for the same amount toward admission to MoMA.
Personal photography is allowed in the Museum, excluding special exhibitions and works on loan. Tripods, camera extension devices, special equipment, and flash photography are not allowed. Portrait photography, personal or professional, is not allowed inside the Museum.
Admission to the MoMA is $25 per adult and $14 per student with a valid student ID.
FREE FRIDAYS
The Museum of Modern Art provides free admission every Friday night from 4 pm – 8 pm. During this weekly event, you'll still be able to visit MoMA PS1 and attend film screenings.Some large art museums like New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and Boston's Museum of Fine Arts have changed their policies and now allow photography in parts of their permanent collections. However, they typically ban all photography in special exhibitions, which are often the main reason people are visiting.
Small backpacks may be brought into the galleries if they are carried on your front or side. Luggage and musical instruments are not permitted in the galleries and will not be accepted at the coat check. Masks and costumes are not permitted. Water in plastic bottles may be brought into the Museum.

The Metropolitan Museum and the American Museum of Natural History are always "pay what you wish." The MOMA has free Friday evenings beginning at 4:00 p.m., but it gets very, very crowded. The Met is pay as you wish; suggested adult admission is $25 and student is $12.

The Met is no longer pay-what-you-wish for some visitors. The Metropolitan Museum of Art has changed its pay-what-you-wish ticket policy — but only for some visitors. New York residents can still pay what they wish, as the museum is located on state-owned land. Admission for children under age 12 remains free.

So during the summer, MOMA has better hours, but the rest of the year, the Met has better hours. Both museums are popular so the best time to go will be during the week in the mornings. Since MOMA is a smaller museum, it will feel more crowded than the Met.
Entry to the Natural History Museum is free. There are admission charges for some of the special exhibitions and events.
Admission is free for all visitors during UNIQLO Free Friday Nights. The line for tickets begins at the Museum's 54th Street entrance. Your UNIQLO Free Friday Night ticket permits entry to all Museum galleries and exhibitions. Film and performance admission is free, but a separate ticket is required.
