If you have an out-of-warranty, out-of-AppleCare iPhone, you may still be able to insure it. Many insurance companies and carriers only cover new iPhones, and your credit card purchase probably only covers you for about 90 days, and the extended warranty it provides probably only doubles Apple's one-year warranty.
Usually they have a minimum period, where you can't claim for 24 hours or so. But if it's longer than that it's fine.
If you've damaged your phone and the damage isn't to do with manufacturing and you didn't have an insurance policy before the phone was damaged, you won't be able to claim on insurance. Most phone manufacturers will offer out-of-warranty repairs, but these usually come at a high price.

However, most home insurance policies will include cover for your handset if it lost or stolen. 'If you have home contents insurance, your mobile phone is covered as standard in and around your property. Equally, if your bath or shower leaks and your phone is damaged by the overflowing water you are also insured.
An insurance company can't unilaterally decide to 'track your phone'. That would be an invasion of privacy and is quite probably unlawful. But technologies are being deployed that will utilize your phone as a reporting device, assuming you give permission.
Unfortunately, jailbreaking blacklisted iPhone won't fix it because the IMEI is still blacklisted by carrier. Updating the iOS for iPhone or flashing the firmware for Android devices will not make any difference since the bad IMEI or bad ESN will not be removed from carriers' databases.
As soon as you find your phone is missing you need to call your operator to stop service, call the police to report it stolen (don't call 999, get the regular station number from directory enquiries), and then call your insurer to start the claim process.
Simple. Be honest and return the damaged phone to Asurion, or they will charge you a couple hundred dollars as a penalty. HOWEVER, if you owe $1400 to AT&T they can blacklist your new replacement phone if you default on your bill.

Lost your phone, reported it, then found it again? That's fine, you can still sell it on. Just call up the same number you used to report it - as well as your network's customer service - and tell them you've found it again and all is well.

When you make a claim through Asurion, they will blacklist the phone if you claim it has been lost or stolen. Only Asurion will be able to remove it from the blacklist, Fido has no control over this.
It is not T-Mobile but Assurant (insurance company) that replaces the device. Usually it is a refurbished but on occasion they are new.

BUT to my surprise, Asurion DENIED my claim because they stated that the device had not been used yet. This is/was my first time handling a phone claim with Asurion and was completely unaware that the device had to have been "used". I mean, it was ACTIVATED from the day of purchase.
