Persian rummyEach joker counts as 20 points, and jokers may not be used in sequences or as wild cards, but only in groups of three or four jokers. Any meld of four, laid down all at once, counts double its face value.
The object is to form Runs (or sequences) and Sets. And when a player has formed required runs and sets using all the 13 card, the player declares his/her turn. A valid declare must have minimum two runs and out of these runs one run must be pure (called First Life).
Legality of Online RummyThe game of Rummy has been declared absolutely legal by the Supreme Court as it falls under the category of a “game of skill” and not “game of chance.” Hence, it is legal to play rummy online with the intention of winning cash.
How it differs from Rummy: The rules of Gin Rummy are similar to those of Rummy. The main difference is that the players do not lay down their sets and runs until they are prepared to end the round. If the opposing player has valid runs or sets in his hand, they will not count as points.
If the stock has run out and the next player does not want to take the discard, the game ends at that point. Everyone scores the value of the cards remaining in their hands. If the game ends without anyone going out, all players count the value of the cards remaining in their hands.
A pure sequence is a group of three or more cards of the same suit, placed in consecutive order. You can not form a pure sequence with a wildcard or a joker card. To declare the game, you need to have at least 1 pure sequence in your rummy hand.
Splitting a run.Players may split long runs and insert the corresponding tiles in the middle. Thus, if blue 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 are already a run, the player may insert his own 8 to make two runs: 6, 7, 8 and 8, 9, 10.
Gin Rummy play resembles regular Rummy, except for how you go out, and the fact that you do not put down combinations mid-hand. You cannot take up the discard and then immediately put it down — just as at Rummy.
In Gin Rummy, cards are worth their numerical value with Aces worth 1 and face cards worth 10. The objective of Gin Rummy is to be the first to reach 100 points.
When a player knocks in the game of Gin Rummy it means that he has reduced his hand to the maximum points allowed by what the value of the knock card is. If the player places the card he is discarding on the discard pile then it is considered to be cheating and the hand will have to be forfeited.
In most Rummy games, unlike the majority of other card games, aces can be high or low, but not both. So, runs involving the ace must take the form A-2-3 or A-K-Q but not K-A-2. The first person who manages to make his whole hand into combinations one way or another, with one card remaining to discard, wins the game.
