How big is the Adelaide Zoo?
The conservation charity Save China's Tigers stated "Recent research indicates that the tiger is indeed stronger than the lion in terms of physical strength. A tiger is generally physically larger than a lion. Most experts would favor a Siberian and Bengal tiger over an African lion."
Cubs at BirthTiger cubs are born blind and are completely dependent on their mother. Newborn tiger cubs weigh between 785 and 1,610 grams (1.75 to 3.5 lb). The tiger cubs' eyes will open sometime between six to twelve days. However, they do not have their full vision for a couple of weeks.
They live in eastern Russia's birch forests, and there are some in China and North Korea. It is estimated that there are around 400 to 500 Siberian tigers left in the wild.

At the Zoo, tigers eat ground beef, and their diet is supplemented with enrichment items each week. They receive knucklebones or cow femurs twice a week and rabbits once a week to exercise their jaws and keep their teeth healthy. Tigers are solitary creatures, except when mating or raising young.
The South China tiger is a tiger from a specific population of the Panthera tigris tigris subspecies that is native to southern China. The population mainly inhabited the Fujian, Guangdong, Hunan and Jiangxi provinces.

There are fewer than 350 left in the wild. These beautiful animals are victim to the illegal wildlife pet trade, illegal poaching for medicine, illegal hunting for pelts and meat, as well as experiencing rapid deforestation and habitat loss.
Sumatran Tiger BehaviorIt is believed that they are more aggressive due to the limited habitat. They not only have to fight with other tigers for food and resources, but they often come into areas where humans and livestock have been established.
Yes, lions can mate with their siblings either knowingly or unknowingly. You will see the same dominating male lion mating with most of the lioness in the same group or with a different group. The females will expel their male cubs from the pride when the cubs become sexually mature at the age of about three years.
What do lions eat? Lions usually hunt and eat medium-sized to large hoofed animals like wildebeests, zebras, and antelopes. They occasionally also prey on larger animals, especially sick or injured ones, and eat found meat such as carrion.
In the wild, groups of lionesses do attack lions, typically in defence of their cubs or territory, and such incidents have been filmed at safari parks. Sometimes the lions will kill cubs - usually when they take over new territory from another pride - to stake their claim on the females.
How long does a lion live?
Female: 10 – 15 yearsAdult, In the wild
Male: 8 – 10 yearsAdult, In the wild
Lions are carnivores, which means they are animals that only eat meat. Some of the types of prey they catch include birds, hares, turtles, mice, lizards, wild hogs, wild dogs, antelopes, cheetahs, buffaloes, leopards, crocodiles, baby elephants, rhinoceros, hippopotamuses, and even tall giraffes!
It is a social species, forming groups called prides. A
lion pride consists of a few adult males, related
females and cubs. Groups of
female lions usually hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates.

Nearly all wild lions live in Africa, below the Sahara Desert, but one small population exists around Gir Forest National Park in western India. Lions in west and central Africa are more closely related to these Asiatic lions in India, than to those found in southern and east Africa.
You can meet our Gorillas at Taronga Zoo Sydney.
Snakes generally inhabit natural areas of bushland, grasslands and creeklines of the
Adelaide Hills, but have also adapted well to urban environments.
