The worst dog breeds for people with allergies

The Chihuahua breed is highly susceptible to skin allergies, and the causes can range from genetic to environmental to food intolerances.
A US News & World Report contributor writes about the common myths surrounding asthma, such as the disease can be “outgrown,†and chihuahuas can help cure childhood asthma (something that appeared in medical journals as recently as the 1950s, according to the article).
BUT, keep in mind that hairless dogs can cause even more allergic reactions because they have no fur to trap the dander before it goes into the air.

If you have allergies, you likely look for products marked “hypoallergenic†to avoid triggering an allergic reaction. Hypoallergenic means a product contains few allergy-producing substances known as allergens.
These dogs tend to be a little aggressive and make noise, and they bark every time they feel threatened – and this can happen often when you're that small. However cases of excessive barking are rare among dogs from this crossbreed, and they usually occur if the dog spends too much time alone.
Common Health ProblemsThese can include hypothyroidism, hypoglycemia, diabetes, intervertebral degenerative disc disease, seizures, Luxating patellas, dental issues and hydrocephalus. Additionally, like all small dog breeds, the Chiweenie is at risk for early tooth loss.
Smooth coated breeds adhere to the general rule of dog bathing: about once every three months. The coat should end up fresh smelling, shiny, with no loose or shedding hair. First give the dog a good brushing to remove dead hair and mats.
Although a Chihuahua may not be as dangerous as a larger dog, a Chihuahua is still capable of biting and causing damage, especially to a child or older person. Chihuahuas are prone to acting aggressively for the same reasons any dog may behave aggressively, due to anxiety, territorial behavior, or to show dominance.

Pure breed Chiweenies cost anywhere from $200 to $600. Of course, most of us would prefer to rescue a pup; however, you will rarely see a Chiweenie puppy in an animal shelter due to their popularity. Their price will be slightly less if the parent dogs are mixed breeds.
Chorkie coats are often a mix of their Yorkshire Terrier and Chihuahua parents' coats and colors. While Yorkies are hypoallergenic, Chihuahuas are not. Chorkies tend to be hypoallergenic with a low shed coat, though it's tough to say for sure. If your pup gets more Chi in them, they may shed a bit more.
